Semaglutide, known as a "GLP-1" or "glucagon like peptide-1", was originally developed as a diabetic medication and is often used for the treatment of patients diagnosed with obesity or who are overweight and have at least one other co-morbid condition, such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. 

Semaglutide mimics naturally occuring hormones and works in a few diffferent ways. It tells the pancreas to make more insulin, slows gastric emptying time so that you feel full longer, and sends a signal to your brain to tell you that you're not hungry, therefore controlling cravings. 

Brand-name medications can be very expensive and often insurance does not cover the cost. For example, the brand-name Semaglutide medications often cost anywhere from $900- $1400 per month! However, ordering the medication from a compounding pharmacy allows us to bypass insurance and receive high-grade, quality medication at a much more affordable price. At ARISE, most patients receiving treatment with us will pay around $350 per month (this includes the cost of medications, supplies, and follow-up appointments). Please note that this is a cash only practice, and no insurance payments are accepted. We do accept FSA/HSA cards. We also offer payment plans. 

On average, patients can expect lose 1.5-2 pounds per week, but paired with the correct nutritional diet, weight loss can be accelerated.  

Most patients are excellent candidates and will greatly benefit from the results. Semaglutide has been widely studied, and only those patients who are pregnant, have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) are contraindicated from using the medication. 

While the injectable weight loss medications have proven to be extremely effective, there are medications that can be taken orally for weight loss.
